  • Last Day Summer

    Last Day Summer

    By Andrea Menzies

Time flies in summer for teachers. August 18 is the first day back from summer break in Chesterfield, VA schools. That makes Friday the last workday off from school before I have to wake up at 5 in the morning daily. I miss the money and the people, but I don’t miss the stress. I wrote several articles for the school newspaper in high school saying I wished all schools would have year-round school. As a grown up I also wish they would go year-round with a couple weeks of break. Students need massive schoolwork reviews after the summer break, students act bad before and after the break, teachers lack summer pay, teachers often need extra summer jobs, summer daycare is expensive for parents, and worst of all is the shock to the system of sleeping late before going back to early school. European schools only have a short break for summer then their students have better scores for University. Maybe someday a good system will become normal in the USA. Meanwhile I will soon miss sleeping.

  • Video Chant

    Video Chant

    By Andrea Menzies

You know you have been teaching for a long time when the videos about classroom blood born pathogen warnings start to have dialogue you can recite and chant along with while watching. I can say the end of the video’s sentence before the video even says it. At least it helps me make all A grades on the quizzes at the end.

  • Summer Kindle

    By Andrea Menzies

Summer has rekindled my love for Geocaching scavenger hunt games. Some good new ones are out, so add me to friends with the codes below. I used to love the Wizards Unite game, but it has gone kaput. I am now on Geocaching, Poedaughterz on Mythwalker, Poedaughter7 on Magic Streets, and Pokemon Go at Poedaughter7.

    Poedaughterz at the official Geocaching.
    Mythwalker is that code.

    Magic Streets is that code.

Can’t go wrong with the classics I am still on Pokemon Go above.

    2025 Fairground Fireworks

My family and I saw fireworks for the 4th of July. Here are some highlights from the 4th of July weekend and fireworks in Chesterfield 2025. Sometimes being a single mom has good moments with the family.

  • When Classy

    When Classy

    By Andrea Menzies

What is classy when you are rich, but trashy when you are average or poor? I saw this posted on Instagram, and some of the answers are surprising. Not driving, having a vintage car, biking, or having a license is another mark of wealth. Having a 7000 dollar Italian or German racing bike your chauffeur drives you to use is healthy, wealthy, environmental, and wise. Speaking two languages got many votes. Spa therapy treatments for the celebrity’s eccentric exhaustion versus normal therapy another one. The ultra rich also avoid paying taxes, and that seems to take no insults from the mass media which is owned by the wealthy. Know others I have missed?

P.S. To all the people who think bikes are all cheap here is the Mercedes-Benz one for $7000 https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1AbxgLeX4W/

  • Protest Week

    Protest Week

Lots of action online with the protest week for No Kings Day. Many people are out and about normally not the type to protest. My group cancelled, and I am going to find a new group to join for the next set.

  • Happy Friday The 13th

    Happy Friday The 13th

    By Andrea Menzies

Happy Friday The 13th To All! Today I fell and skinned my knee. Darn Friday the 13th I thought! Now the question will haunt me did I randomly fall, or subconsciously make it happen due to knowing it was the 13th? Was I just more aware of my bad luck due to it being Friday the 13th? I tend not to go out on Friday the 13th not because of my own superstition, but because I know some real weirdos are superstitious and go into trouble maker mode on the 13th. Oh well I will just stay away from hockey masks to be on the safe side and read these memes from yourtango dot com.

  • Back To Bike

    Back To Bike

    By Andrea Menzies

At long last I can bike again, and biked a three mile ride. I am going to keep Pine Sol and hand sanitizer on me every second of the day this summer as I do NOT want to deal with that crap one more time. I had a flu shot at Walgreens just before summer, but that helped nothing at all. I labeled my first return ride the feeling better ride, and it is way better to not feel horribly sick. Now if I could just do something about not having a date, boyfriend, or even a kiss on the face in three years as of this month which I completely hate some real problems could get solved. I went to Planned Parenthood recently,  and all tests showed I was healthy and fine. I guess I have to go to towns with a real music scene to meet people which this state has none of at all.

  • Better Days

    Better Days

    By Andrea Menzies

All the heaven saints made antibiotics, and after taking them I am much better. Thanks to all the people who wished for me to “get well soon” when I was sick. As a substitute teacher I work at the desks of the sickest teachers in the district, and this leaves me constantly extra sick. This is just one of the reasons I am going to night school online to NOT be a substitute teacher anymore. I have a million plans for summer, but being trapped in bed was not one of them.
