Doonesbury cartoon character Duke is an action figure I have. Nothing shows how open-carrying protesters look more clearly. I do not support open-carrying of guns. I found the lack of discussion about how often attackers take weapons away from victims to use against them disturbing in media coverage today. I have an action figure of the Doonesbury cartoon character Duke waving a gun while drinking. Doonesbury is still one of my most loved cartoons.  I hate open-carry gun use, and this cartoon makes it clear why. They had a rape victimized woman on the news saying she wished her school had let her have a gun. Rape is horrible, and I do not belittle her pain. However, statistics demonstrate the attackers are NOT driven away by guns, take the guns, and use them to hurt, torture, and kill the holders. Where was news coverage on this perspective?

The guard as I went to donate plasma today went on a rant to me advocating open-carry of guns. Why do these people vent to ME? I was being polite because I wanted a quick donation for cash. I was smiling and nodding to get the person to shut-up, but it only encouraged them. I am a single mom, and I needed the money. I could not escape the rant when stuck there in the long line without losing my place. I greatly dislike that guard guy now, and never want to be friends with him. My transition from the liberal political areas of Austin, TX to Richmond, VA is NOT going well due to frequent conversations like this happening daily. I have met very FEW people in all of Virginia who do not make me want to vomit when talking to them due to crazed right wing propaganda being a constant deluge of words.

The town I live in of Richmond, VA being a hotbed of political protest today has been challenging to say the least.

State of Emergency Virginia 2020 pic 1

CNN says a state of emergency has been declared by the governor here in Richmond, VA where my house is at. This is why I travel and date in other towns! I need to drive to other towns to have fun due to all the shooting in this area. The super-violence that I dislike is NOT my imagination. Things really are strange with violence dominating downtown. This is why it has been difficult to move from Austin, TX and New Orleans, LA to the Virginia area. Every place sometimes has a bad day, but more concert venues and dance clubs close down with fights, drugs, and shootings in this area compared to other areas I have lived in. FAR more closings happen here yearly. Remember Have a Nice Day Retro 80s Café in Richmond? Google it and it was closed years ago in Richmond due to shootings.  I do NOT like the fascists with guns in town seriously. I am not into fascist people normally, but when they shut down dance clubs and rock shows I hate it most of all. What little weekend I had planned was “shot” with this news broadcast. My mom, sister, and I plan to leave town as the violence goes extra bad on Monday.

I think people with drug problems not getting therapy is an issue behind much of this violence at the roots. Kids turn to drugs instead of therapy when they have problems because they have BAD or NO insurance. They are tossed in jail for the drugs where they meet charismatic cult leader, gun fan, and fascist bikers. Years later it snowballs into ranting holding guns at a rally. Real healthcare could have helped this issue before it started.
