  • The New Secret Oktober Store

First Published Sept. 2, 2020 by writer Andrea Menzies

I managed to make it to the new Secret October store today. Cassandra Davis and Wendy (Mary) Morris main owners and workers were both working, and I got to say hello. I questioned them about the new store, and they said that they are happy about the move with better space. Cassandra in particular was relieved to be done with the move.

“I feel like I had to become a real estate agent while searching for the new place. We had to look at so many places, and measurements. I am glad this place is working out.” Said Cassandra Davis.

In addition the new place has better bathrooms, more changing space, and a better music store area. I got a new shirt, and it was great to see the new location. Afterward I stopped by a nearby music store for more checking in on local music. Austin calls itself the live music capital of the world, and a quick day of bargain hunting really shows why.

  • Half Price Books and Thundercloud

Half Price Books and Thundercloud subs for a very a very Austin kind of a day. Thundercloud even has a kind of sub called the Austin. You can see why I have a book sale and re-sale Internet page when you see how popular book resale is in Austin.

  • Headed Out In Austin

Headed out with friends after getting into Austin, TX. Much of the weather problems with double hurricanes and flooding hitting the coast did not bother flights near Austin today.

  • In Atlanta Today

I made it to Atlanta, Georgia today in good weather. The place is huge, and the food is good. So far I am on time for my trip to Austin.

  • Leaving Wednesday

Leaving Wednesday: I had a REALLY great time visiting Austin and visiting many sexy Austin, TX guys. Unfortunately the student friend I am staying with needs to leave town to film a movie. In addition my mom texted me that she really needs me to return to Virginia to help her and my sister’s kids. Plus jobs don’t work themselves. I am therefore returning to Virginia on Wednesday.

The podcast at FH7publishing.com will return the Tuesday after my return to Virginia.

  • KOOP Radio With Provision

I had a great time last night at the 91.7 KOOP radio benefit concert at Elysium Austin Club with the band Provision. Technically SXSW Music Festival was cancelled this week for the first time in its 34 year history. However I still met up with friends and had a great time in streets super packed for SXSW! I heard from workers at the shows that venues just rebooked most of the acts on a smaller scale. If anything the “unofficial” status just made things cheaper and more fun! Most of the free activities have also not been canceled at SXSW.com/free

  • Travel to Austin and Interview with Noble Brown of Save It For The Breakdown

I was traveling in Austin, TX doing promotion for my latest podcast episodes and my latest published books.  I ran into my friend Noble Brown of the famous Austin Music podcast Save It For The Breakdown available on Podbean. We are still friends to this day, and I managed to get an Interview.

Noble has fronted dozens of bands over the years, but he is the current frontman for a band called “Black Mercy” after the character which battles Superman. His day job that pays the bills is working with computers, and Noble studied computer programming at UT Austin where he got his University degree. Noble is a fan of old school punk and pop punk, and one of his all time favorites is the Dead Kennedys. I know this because I borrowed his Frankenchrist album shirt once, and forgot to return it which he still bugs me about. I am the girl on Noble’s left in the first photo below. He got into music to promote his love of the vegan lifestyle, and animal rights causes. He is a very enthusiastic collector of comic books, and “Spawn” one of his favorite series. Noble started band work young, but still performs at shows to this day with updates posted to his Instagram and Facebook.
